LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team officially opened the 2018-19 season on Tuesday night with a 7-2 loss to visiting Snead State at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
The match was originally scheduled for Sept. 25, but was moved due to weather.
Covenant (0-1) got both points in the singles portion of the match. Esther Eddy picked up a win at the No. 1 spot with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Erika Roman. Eddy was making her first appearance at the No. 1 position in her college career.
At the No. 2 spot, Margo Koby made her college debut on the tennis court with a three-set victory, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) over Meagan Moore.
In doubles, Covenant dropped a couple of close decisions. Snead State (2-2) took 8-6 victories at both No. 2 and No. 3 spots as the visitors gained a 3-0 lead entering the singles competition. Outside of the two wins, the Scots nearly got another point at No. 6, but Sara Blauw was defeated 6-3, 7-6(4) by Snead State's Katie Hill.
Covenant will be back in action in the spring season, beginning in February. The complete spring schedule will be announced soon.
