CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- A day after seeing a two-year win streak against USA South foes come to an end, the Covenant women's tennis team bounced back and posted a 9-0 victory over Brevard on Saturday afternoon at the Zan Guerry Tennis Center at Baylor School in Chattanooga.
The match was moved away from Lookout Mountain due to expected rain during the afternoon on Saturday.
Covenant (7-6) did not drop a set in cruising to the win over USA South newcomer Brevard (2-8). The match was Covenant's third in as many days and the Lady Scots went 2-1 during the stretch.
In doubles, Annie DeLuca and Esther Eddy had to fight off a strong No. 1 doubles duo from Brevard in Kelsey Kushner and Jen Cox. DeLuca and Eddy outlasted the Brevard duo and took a 9-8(6) victory at the top spot. Aly Hall and Jennie Spielman eased past Margaret Correll and Mckenzie Bowman 8-1, while Morgan McCain and Masha Lanska were also victorious by an 8-1 margin over Carmen Boone and Christiana Beltran at the third spot.
Spielman gave Covenant a 4-0 match lead with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Bowman at the No. 4 spot before Hall clinched the match with a sweep of Kushner 6-0, 6-0 at the top flight. In each of the final four singles matches, Covenant controlled play and only dropped a handful of points.
Eddy was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Correll at the third flight and DeLuca took a 6-2, 6-0 win over Cox at No. 2. Mackenzie Jones bested Beltran in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot, while McCain completed the sweep with her 6-4, 6-1 win against Boone at No. 5.
Covenant returns to Lookout Mountain and the Covenant Tennis Complex on Friday, March 30 against USA South foe Huntingdon. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
