CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team could not hold a 2-1 lead after doubles play and fell to visiting Hanover, 5-4, on Saturday night inside the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at McCallie School.
The match was moved from Lookout Mountain to McCallie's indoor courts due to rain in the area.
Covenant (2-2) got out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play after the combo of Aly Hall and Jennie Spielman took down Hanover's Cami Jones and Haley Parker 8-2 at the No. 2 spot. Annie DeLuca and Ester Eddy tied the match at 1-1 with their 8-4 victory over Alana Feeley and Caroline Millard at the top flight.
The lead stretched to 4-1 for the Lady Scots in the early going of the singles play. Hall bested Meghan Farrell 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 1 position, while Eddy also picked up her second victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Susie Winternheimer at No. 3.
However, Hanover (10-2) put together a rally and squeaked by Covenant with a match-clinching win at No. 5. Hanover's Addison Laker broke a 4-4 match tie with her 6-1, 6-4 win over Covenant's Morgan McCain at the fifth spot to give the visiting Panthers the win.
Covenant will be off until March 1 when it travels to face Oglethorpe. Match time in Atlanta is set for 3:30 p.m.
