Women's Tennis Drops Spring Opener

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Friday with an 8-1 loss to region foe Birmingham Southern at the Covenant Tennis Complex.

Covenant drops to 1-1 on the year, while Birmingham Southern goes to 2-0.

The Lady Scots' lone point of the match was won by Annie DeLuca. The senior bested Isabella Wisener in three sets after rallying from a set down. DeLuca won the match 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). 

Birmingham Southern took a 3-0 lead in the match after sweeping doubles. The teams of Aly Hall and Jennie Spielman, and Morgan McCain and Masha Lanska each lost by 8-3 scores at flights two and three, respectively. In singles play, Esther Eddy and Spielman both fell in their matches by 6-2, 6-3 margins.


Covenant will host Belhaven on Friday, Feb. 16. Matches start at 4 p.m.
