LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Covenant women's tennis seniors Claire Luger and Gracie Smith were honored before the match and then the Lady Scots routed USA South foe Salem by a 9-0 score on Saturday afternoon at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
Luger and Smith are two of the most decorated four-year players in program history. The duo ranks one and two in the program's all-time career singles victories leaderboard with Smith at 49 and Luger at 34. The players have also played as doubles partners and each has 47 career doubles wins, also a program record.
Covenant (9-7, 4-0 USA South) had little trouble with Salem on Saturday to continue its perfect run in USA South play.
Luger and Smith were 8-2 winners at the No. 2 doubles spot, while No. 1 tandem of Aly Hall and Esther Eddy won 8-3. Sarah Ragsdale and Masha Lanska combined for an 8-0 win at the No. 3 spot to give the Lady Scots a 3-0 lead.
In singles play, Luger and Smith also tallied victories. Luger won 6-4, 6-1 at the second position and Smith was 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 3. Annie DeLuca took 6-0, 6-1 win at the top spot and Jennie Spielman was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 4.
Covenant will conclude the home portion of its regular season schedule on Wednesday against USA South foe Maryville. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
