MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team suffered a tough weekend of competition against SAA foes as the Lady Scots dropped three matches. Covenant fell to Millsaps 7-2 on Friday, before losing 7-2 to Rhodes and 5-4 to Hendrix on Saturday in Memphis.
Covenant (2-4) has lost four straight overall.
In Friday's loss at Millsaps, Claire Luger and Gracie Smith picked up the points for the Lady Scots in singles play. Luger was victorious 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot over Jordyn Kanak, while Smith was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Mary Claiborne-Sharpe at No. 4.
Against Rhodes, Covenant also fell by a 7-2 score. Smith collected another win at No. 4 singles with an 8-4 victory over Sara Lynn Abbott. Sarah Ragsdale also tallied a victory for Covenant as she bested Mary Mullen 8-6 at the No. 6 position.
In the loss to Hendrix, Covenant fell behind in doubles play but almost came all the way back for the win. Jennie Spielman and Annie DeLuca took an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles to avoid a sweep from Hendrix as the Warriors took a 2-1 lead entering singles play.
Aly Hall was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at the No. 1 spot in singles over Pratheepa Ravikumar. Esther Eddy tallied a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 against Rebecca Sherman, while Smith completed a perfect weekend in her singles matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sarah Walker. But Hendrix would get wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 6 to preserve the lead and the victory.
Covenant will continue non-conference play against SAA foe Oglethorpe on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on Lookout Mountain.
