LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The spring schedules for the Covenant men's and women's tennis programs have been finalized. The programs, under fifth-year head coach John Hirte, will each play 10 home contests during the year while the men play 21 matches and the women 19.
The men enter the spring portion of their schedule with a 1-0 record after defeating Milligan 7-2 on Sept. 17. The Scots open the spring on Feb. 11 at regional power Birmingham Southern before hosting Gadsden State on Feb. 17 at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
Covenant then travels down the mountain on Feb. 18 to take on Division I member Chattanooga. It will be the second straight year the Scots and Mocs have played each other.
The bulk of the home schedule for the Scots will take place in March. Covenant plays seven home matches in the month, including contests against Berry (March 25), Sewanee (March 31) and conference foes LaGrange (March 18), Piedmont (March 21) and Huntingdon (March 25).
The women also enter the spring with an unbeaten record as the Lady Scots are 2-0 after taking wins over Milligan and Snead State in the fall. The Lady Scots also open the spring on Feb. 11 at Birmingham Southern before playing Millsaps (Feb. 24), Rhodes and Hendrix (Feb. 25) away from home in the month of February.
The women will play five straight matches at home from March 18-25, with two of those contests coming against USA South foes in Agnes Scott (March 24) and Wesleyan (March 25). The Lady Scots also host Berry (March 25) and Sewanee (March 31) during the month.
Both men's and women's USA South Tournaments will be played in LaGrange, Ga., from April 13-15. The championship rounds of the tournaments are slated for Saturday, April 15. The top three teams from each men's division will qualify for the tournament. On the women's side, the top four teams from each division will earn a spot. Both Covenant teams will be competing in the West Division of the USA South.
