Top Moments of 2015-16: Big Year for Women's Tennis

NOTE: This is the eighth of a weekly summer series on highlighting some of the top athletic moments and accomplishments from the 2015-16 academic year. This is not a ranking, or even a full comprehensive list, because of the many great accomplishments Covenant athletic programs had during the year. We hope you enjoy a look back at the many triumphs of the Covenant Scots during the 2015-16 year. --- Andrew Mindeman, Sports Information Director.

The Covenant women's tennis program has become one of the best in the USA South in only three years in the conference. In 2016, the Lady Scots were ready to continue the climb up the conference standings.

With talent up and down the roster, Covenant went 15-6 overall and set program records for most conference wins in a season (11) and best overall winning percentage (.714). The record propelled the program into the ITA and NCAA regional rankings for the first time. The Lady Scots peaked at No. 16 in the ITA region poll on April 14 before finishing at No. 18, while the NCAA region rankings pegged Covenant at No. 14 in its final ranking of the year on May 5.

During the year, Covenant took big victories over conference and non-conference foes. Facing regionally-ranked Berry on March 16 in a non-conference match, the Lady Scots fell behind early but rallied back and Aly Hall's three-set win at No. 1 singles gave Covenant a 5-4 victory.

Less than two weeks after the Berry match, Covenant faced another stiff challenge at Meredith on March 26. Again, the Lady Scots fell behind but would rally back to tie the match at 4-4. This time it was Claire Luger that came through with a come-from-behind, three-set victory giving Covenant another 5-4 win.
