Eddy Commits to Covenant, Women's Tennis

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Esther Eddy, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., has committed to attend Covenant College and play tennis for the Scots and head coach John Hirte starting in the fall of 2016.

Eddy is currently finishing up her final semester of high school as a homeschooled student. She has competed for the last several years for Providence High School in Jacksonville, capping off her high school career by winning her district and region tournaments at No. 1 doubles, and advancing all the way to the quarterfinals of the Florida 1A State Doubles Tournament. She also finished 11-1 at No. 2 singles for a Providence team that advanced to the region finals.

"There were many factors that led to me choosing Covenant, but the one that stands out the most is the environment," said Eddy about her decision to come to Covenant. "Not only is 'In All Things Christ preeminent' the slogan, but it is lived out. In choosing a college, my parents and I wanted a place that would challenge and strengthen my faith through academics and sports. I am looking forward to starting at Covenant this coming fall and getting involved in a new community."

"Esther will be a great addition to our team next year," stated Hirte. "She is a young woman who is driven to excel in both her academics and her tennis. With that drive and determination she also brings a kind, encouraging spirit, and a desire to glorify Christ in all things. She's a tremendous fit for our community and our tennis program, and we are thrilled she has chosen to come to Covenant."

Eddy plans to study either Biology or in Pre-Physical Therapy once she enrolls at Covenant this fall.
