Women's Tennis Wins 10th Straight USA South Match

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The wins keep on rolling in for the Covenant women's tennis team. The Lady Scots won their 10th straight USA South match of the year on Saturday with a convincing 7-2 win over Huntingdon at the Covenant Tennis Complex.

With the win, Covenant (14-5, 11-1 USA South) clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's USA South Tournament in Rocky Mount, N.C. The seed gives the Lady Scots a bye into the semifinal round on Saturday, April 16.

Covenant took a 2-1 match lead after doubles play as the Nos. 2 and 3 spots were won by the Lady Scots. Claire Luger and Gracie Smith took an 8-3 win over Huntingdon's No. 2 tandem while Lindsay Geving and Jennie Spielman were also 8-3 winners at No. 3.

In singles, Covenant coasted to the victory. Aly Hall won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 over Zoya Robinson. Luger was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 3 over Caroline McBroom and Smith shutout Octavia Pendleton 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot and the match-clincher. Danielle Morin took a three-set victory over Maya Jones 6-4, 0-6, 10-6 at No. 5 before Geving's 6-1, 6-1 win against Emily Waters at No. 6.


Covenant will host Agnes Scott in a non-conference match on Tuesday starting at 4 p.m. on Lookout Mountain. The match is a rescheduled one from the Feb. 26 rain out.
