CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Backed by solid performances from up and down the lineup, the Covenant women's tennis team knocked off USA South foe LaGrange 8-1 on Friday night at Manker Patten Tennis Club.
Covenant, which has won nine of its last 11 matches, moves to 13-5 overall and 10-1 in conference play. LaGrange drops to 9-6 on the year and 6-5 in league play.
The Lady Scots took all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead in the match. At No. 1, Aly Hall and Annie DeLuca won 8-0 over LaGrange's Denney Meigs and Jia Lee. Claire Luger and Gracie Smith were 8-3 winners at No. 2 over Morgan McDonald and Liz Minick, while Lindsay Geving and Jennie Spielman defeated Kaitlin Smith and Ali Herring 8-5.
In singles, DeLuca took a 7-6 (5), 6-3 over McDonald at the No. 1 spot. Luger took a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Smith was victorious 6-2, 6-3 at the third flight. Geving got her second victory of the night at No. 5 over Smith 7-5, 6-4 and Danielle Morin capped the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Lee.
Covenant hosts Huntingdon in USA South action on Saturday at noon on Lookout Mountain.
