LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team cruised past USA South foe Averett 7-2 in Saturday's first match before dropping a 6-3 contest against non-conference foe Centre at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
Covenant had won four matches in a row before its loss to Centre. The Lady Scots stand at 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the USA South.
Against Averett, Covenant got off to a strong start as it took all three doubles matches by identical 8-4 scores. Aly Hall and Annie DeLuca were winners at the top flight, while Gracie Smith and Claire Luger (No. 2) along with Jennie Spielman and Lindsay Geving (No. 3) were also victorious and gave Covenant a 3-0 lead.
In singles, DeLuca posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Jessie Gomes at the No. 2 spot and Luger was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Olivia Scott at No. 3. Danielle Morin picked up another singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kaitlyn Meadows at the fourth position and Jessica Rowe took a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Angelica Orlikowski at No. 5.
In the loss to Centre, Luger and Smith took a point in doubles play as they defeated Casey Blair and Courtney DeLong 8-6.
Aly Hall won at the top flight in singles with a three-set victory over Neha Rao 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. Smith notched the third point for the Lady Scots with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kenny Snow.
Covenant travels to William Peace for a USA South match on Friday, March 25.
