FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant women's tennis sophomore Annie DeLuca has been named USA South Player of the Week for the period ending on March 13, announced the conference on Monday.
DeLuca is the second women's tennis player to earn the honor this year joining Aly Hall (Feb. 22). It is the first career player of the week award for DeLuca.
DeLuca, a sophomore from Alpharetta, Ga., had a perfect weekend as she went 1-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles to help Covenant to a pair of USA South victories. DeLuca's singles win came against Ferrum's Alexandra Dixon (6-2, 7-5) in a 9-0 Lady Scots victory. She teamed with Hall for two doubles wins, an 8-2 win over Ferrum's Dixon and Monica Morris on Saturday after defeating Alayah Austin and Sarena Clifton of Mary Baldwin 8-0 on Friday.
On the year, DeLuca is 5-3 in singles play, with a 3-1 mark against USA South competition, and is 4-3 in doubles with Hall as a partner.
