FERRUM, Va. -- The Covenant women's tennis team followed up an 8-1 victory at Mary Baldwin on Friday with a 9-0 victory at Ferrum on Saturday morning in USA South action.
The victories move the Lady Scots to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the USA South.
In Friday's win at Mary Baldwin, Covenant had little trouble in doubles play as the Lady Scots won all three to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Aly Hall and Annie DeLuca had an 8-0 win at the top flight, while Gracie Smith and Claire Luger also posted a shutout at No. 2. Jennie Spielman and Jessica Rowe completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at the third spot.
In singles play, Hall swept past Alayah Austin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, while DeLuca was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Sarena Clifton in the No. 2 position. Danielle Morin and Spielman picked up victories at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, while Mackenzie Jones took a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot.
In Saturday's sweep of Ferrum, Covenant was able to set the tone early and cruised past the host Panthers. The Lady Scots dropped just three points in doubles play as Hall and DeLuca were 8-2 winners at the top spot and Luger and Smith 8-1 winners at No. 2. Rowe and Spielman produced an 8-0 win at No. 3.
In singles, DeLuca played the top flight and won 6-2, 7-5 over Alexandria Dixon. Playing at No. 2, Smith won 6-0, 6-0 over Rachel Wells, while Morin took a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Raquel Ramseur. Rowe was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Monica Morris in the third spot and Jones a 6-3, 6-1 victor over Xena Guzman at No. 5. Spielman finished off the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Trinity Welsh.
Covenant will travel to Berry on Wednesday. Matches start at 4 p.m.
