Women's Tennis Picked Fourth in USA South Preseason Poll

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Covenant women's tennis team, under fourth-year head coach John Hirte, has been picked to finish the season fourth in the USA South, according to the league's preseason coaches poll which was released on Thursday morning.

Covenant garnered 108 total points to sit in fourth. Methodist topped the poll with 135 points and five first-place votes, while defending conference champion North Carolina Wesleyan was second with eight first-place tallies and 134 total points. Meredith was third with 124 points and Huntingdon fifth with 101 to round out the top five.

The Lady Scots return several key players from last year's team that finished in a tie for third in the USA South and went 12-7 overall. Sophomore Annie DeLuca, juniors Claire Luger and Gracie Smith along with senior Lindsay Geving headline the top returners for Hirte's squad.

Covenant (1-0) will get its spring season underway on Saturday, Feb. 13 against Birmingham Southern at home.
