GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Covenant women's tennis team opened USA South play with a convincing 9-0 win at Greensboro on Friday afternoon.

Covenant (3-1, 1-0 USA South) was aided by three forfeit victories, two in singles play and one in doubles, as Greensboro had just four players able to compete. Still, the Lady Scots had no trouble dispatching the Pride (0-1, 0-1 USA South) in the other matches.

Gretchen Rowe and Claire Luger teamed up at No. 1 doubles for an 8-1 win over Kathryn Roper and Ashley Spivey of Greensboro. Gracie Smith and Jennie Spielman took an 8-2 win at the No. 2 position over Molly O'Keeffe and Margaret Dubey.

In singles play, Rowe and Spielman each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories. Annie DeLuca bested Dubey 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot and Lindsay Geving rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over O'Keeffe at No. 3.

Covenant will be back in action on Saturday with a pair of matches in Virginia. The Lady Scots play USA South member Ferrum at 10 a.m. and then travel to face Lynchburg at 4 p.m.
