Lady Scots Tennis Earns Narrow Win over Agnes Scott

DECATUR, Ga. -- After not playing against competition for over two weeks due to wintry weather in the southeast, the Covenant women's tennis team was back in action on Saturday. The Lady Scots used a match clincher from Gracie Smith at No. 4 singles to defeat Agnes Scott 5-4 in non-conference action.

Covenant had not played since Feb. 13 at Sewanee as three matches have been postponed since. The Lady Scots improve to 2-1 on the young season, while Agnes Scott drops to 0-3.

Covenant grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play ended. No. 1 tandem of Gretchen Rowe and Claire Luger took an 8-6 victory, while at No. 3 Smith and Jennie Spielman won 8-4.

In singles play, Smith defeated Taylor Lee 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match for Covenant. Annie DeLuca knocked off Anne Rinaldo 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 position and Lindsay Geving earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Camille Wilson at No. 5.

Covenant will travel to face Birmingham Southern in a makeup contest on Tuesday in Birmingham. Match time is set for 5 p.m. EST.
