Rowe and Smith Earn USA South Women's Tennis Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Junior Gretchen Rowe and freshman Gracie Smith were both selected to USA South All-Conference teams, announced the league on Thursday morning. Rowe was voted to the second team, while Smith was a third team selection.

Rowe, a junior from Lookout Mountain, Ga., played No. 2 singles this season and went 7-2 in conference matches. In doubles play, Rowe was a perfect 8-0 in league play and 11-6 overall as she played with Claire Luger for the majority of the season. 

Smith set a program record with 15 singles victories, besting the previous mark of 12. The freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., went 15-5 overall in singles play and 10-2 in the USA South. Smith played most of the season at the No. 5 singles spot and went 9-1 at the position. Smith went 10-4 overall in doubles play and 6-1 in conference matches playing with sophomore Lindsay Geving.

Geving was Covenant's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.

Laura Baker from Methodist was named Player of the Year in the league, while Natalie Lopez of North Carolina Wesleyan was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Methodist head coach Francie Barragan was chosen as the Coach of the Year.

Covenant will open the USA South Tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday against Maryville. The Lady Scots earned the three-seed in the tournament.
