LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team blanked non-conference foe Point University 9-0 on Thursday evening under the lights at the on-campus tennis complex on Lookout Mountain.
The win moves the Lady Scots to 11-6 overall. Point, which was playing its second match of the day after falling at Dalton State, goes to 1-14 on the year.
Covenant got outstanding efforts across the board during the night. Gretchen Rowe and Molly Peele each earned 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles play at Nos. 2 and 6, respectively. At No. 3 singles, Gracie Smith took a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Ellen Kirkpatrick notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and Lindsay Geving claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot. Madeline Hyatt went three sets before recording a 6-7 (4), 6-0, 10-7 win at the No. 1 spot.
In doubles play, Hyatt and Sarah Carter earned an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 position. Rowe and Claire Luger tallied an 8-0 shutout at No. 2, while Geving and Smith took an 8-1 win at the third position.
Covenant will be off from competition until Tuesday, April 1 when they travel to face USA South foe Piedmont in Demorest, Ga. Those matches begin at 3 p.m.
