Geving's Match-Clincher Gives Women's Tennis 5-4 Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Lindsay Geving's three-set victory at No. 6 singles gave the Covenant women's tennis team a crucial 5-4 USA South victory over Huntingdon on Wednesday evening on Lookout Mountain.

The victory puts the Lady Scots at 10-6 overall on the season but, more importantly, moves the team to 6-2 inside the USA South. Huntingdon drops to 8-3 overall and 7-2 in league play.

The two teams went back-and-forth for most of the match. Covenant took two of the three doubles before Huntingdon rallied to to tie the match at 4-4 in singles play. Geving was the last player to finish as she took Huntingdon's Tara-Beth Hall to three sets before recording a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 match-clinching win.

In doubles play, No. 1 duo of Madeline Hyatt and Sarah Carter defeated Huntingdon's Britni Thibodeau and Hall 8-4. Claire Luger and Gracie Smith combined for a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles. Huntingdon took the third doubles match.

Gretchen Rowe earned a hard-fought victory at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4 over Hannah Still. In another tightly-played match, Carter fell in three sets to Arielle Barraca 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Smith bested Elayne White at the No. 5 spot 6-3, 6-2. 

Covenant will host non-conference foe Point on Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the on-campus complex.
