RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Covenant women's tennis team played two matches on Saturday in North Carolina. The Lady Scots dropped North Carolina Wesleyan 7-2 early in the afternoon and then lost 5-4 at Meredith later in the day.
Covenant goes to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in league play after the day's contests.
In the N.C. Wesleyan match, Covenant won two of the three doubles matches. No. 2 tandem Gretchen Rowe and Claire Luger took an 8-0 victory over the Bishops' Neryzza Calo and Leigh Hales. The Lady Scots took the second win in doubles by way of default.
In singles play, Rowe claimed a 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot over Katie Beeman. Luger bested Calo 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 position, while Gracie Smith defeated Hales 6-0, 6-0. Lindsay Geving also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Jordan Harrell. Like in doubles play, Covenant won a match by default.
In the day's second match at Meredith, the Lady Scots took two of three in doubles play but the host Avenging Angels rallied for the 5-4 win.
Rowe and Luger took their second win of the day at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 win over Meredith's Caroline Hunt and Taylor Brennan. At No. 3 doubles, Ellen Kirkpatrick and Molly Peele notched an 8-2 win.
Smith and Geving took victories in singles play at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Smith won 6-2, 6-4, while Geving captured a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Rowe fell in three sets to Hunt 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Covenant will be back in action on Wednesday at home against USA South foe Huntingdon. Matches begin at 3 p.m.
