CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles matches to knock off non-conference foe Oglethorpe 5-4 on Thursday afternoon at Warner Park in Chattanooga.
The victory is the fourth straight for the Lady Scots as they improve to 6-3 overall on the season. Oglethorpe falls to 1-5 on the year.
Covenant won just one of the three doubles matches. Ellen Kirkpatrick and Molly Peele teamed up at the No. 3 spot to defeat Oglethorpe's Marcail McGranahan and Hailey Bowers 8-6, but the Lady Scots still trailed 2-1 heading into singles play.
Oglethorpe took both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but Covenant took the the other four singles matches. Claire Luger knocked off Ingrid Wilcox 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while Sarah Carter defeated McGranahan at No. 4 6-4, 6-1. Gracie Smith and Lindsay Geving each took 6-0, 6-1 victories at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
Covenant will return to action on Saturday against USA South foe LaGrange at 9:30 a.m. and Johnson University at 5:30 p.m. The matches are tentatively set to be played on the new on-campus courts.
