CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team opened up USA South play over the weekend and earned two victories over Greensboro and Ferrum. The Lady Scots won each match 9-0.
Covenant moves over .500 for the year at 4-3 and 2-0 in league play.
Senior Madeline Hyatt earned two singles and doubles victories at the No. 1 position in each match. Hyatt won 6-0, 6-0 over Greensboro's LeeAnna Robertson and teamed up with Sarah Carter for an 8-1 decision over Robertson and Margaret Dubey in doubles play on Friday. On Saturday, Hyatt got a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and then an 8-0 win with Carter in doubles against Ferrum.
Gretchen Rowe, Claire Luger, Carter, Gracie Smith and Ellen Kirkpatrick all earned two singles and doubles wins each as well over the weekend. Rowe dropped two points combined as she won easily 6-0, 6-1 on both days at the No. 2 singles spot. Smith won both of her singles contests 6-0, 6-0 and paired up with Lindsay Geving for two easy doubles victories at the No. 3 spot.
Luger, the reigning USA South Player and Rookie of the Week, dropped just one point over the weekend at the No. 3 singles position with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Greensboro's Lauren Fisher and then a 6-0, 6-1 win against Ferrum's Kyra Schultz.
Carter, playing at No. 4, won 6-2, 6-3 on Friday and then earned a 6-0, 6-0 win on Saturday. Kirkpatrick had little difficulty as well as she defeated her opponents 6-1, 6-0 in both matches at the No. 6 position.
Covenant will be back in action on Friday when they travel to face Meredith on Friday. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
