LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team played three matches over the weekend and came away with two victories. The Lady Scots took victories over Middle Georgia State (5-2) and Agnes Scott (6-3), but fell at Reinhardt (5-0).
Covenant moves to 2-2 on the season.
In the Middle Georgia match on Friday, Covenant won two doubles matches as duos Gretchen Rowe and Claire Luger, along with Lindsay Geving and Gracie Smith recorded wins. Rowe took a win at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Tricia Wharton of Middle Georgia, while Smith and Geving posted victories at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
After falling to Reinhardt later on Friday, the Lady Scots returned "home" as they faced former conference foe Agnes Scott at Chattanooga Christian on Saturday. Covenant swept the doubles matches as the duos of Rowe/Luger and Smith/Geving claimed wins, while No. 1 doubles tandem of Sarah Carter and Madeline Hyatt took an 8-6 victory.
In singles play, Ellen Kirkpatrick got her first collegiate win 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot. Luger clinched the match for the Lady Scots with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. Smith recorded a shutout at No. 6 6-0, 6-0.
Covenant will travel to Berry on Wednesday starting at 2:30 p.m. The Lady Scots will then return home this weekend to open up USA South play against Greensboro (Friday) and Ferrum (Saturday).
