LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Annie Deluca, a senior at Avon (Ohio) High School, has committed to attend Covenant College. By accepting the enrollment offer, Deluca has expressed her intent to become a full-time student and play tennis for the Lady Scots and head coach John Hirte, starting in the fall of 2014.
Deluca wrapped up her high school tennis career at Avon this past fall, finishing with a 86-16 record while playing several different lineup positions. She is a two-time Northeast Ohio district qualifier in doubles (2012 and 2013), as well a 3-time conference and county champion. Deluca was also chosen as her team's most valuable player in 2012, when she amassed a 22-5 record at No. 1 doubles, and was also selected to 1st team All-Conference as a junior.
"My overnight visit was the deciding factor in choosing Covenant. I felt the full effect of the Christ-centered environment, which helped me eventually realize that I wanted that kind of environment at my future school," said Deluca. "Covenant holds high standards spiritually, academically, and physically for me and I am excited to be challenged. I want to grow in every possible area, and I feel that at Covenant, I most surely will."
"I am very excited that Annie has committed to Covenant," remarked Hirte. "She is a standout player who truly loves the game of tennis, but who also brings integrity, a hard work-ethic, and a fun-loving spirit into everything she does. I look forward to seeing her excel on and off the court during her college years."
Deluca plans to major in English, with a minor in either Education or Music during her time at Covenant.
