Lady Scots Tennis Earns First Victory of Season

ATHENS, Tenn. -- After dropping the first match of the day to Tennessee Wesleyan, the Covenant women's tennis team bounced back and earned its first win of the season with a 9-0 of GSAC foe Salem.

Covenant goes to 1-4 for the spring season and 1-0 in GSAC play.

Senior Anne Marie Rowe won all four of her matches on the day with two coming against Salem. Rowe teamed with her sister, Gretchen, to win their doubles match 8-0. Anne Marie Rowe then won her singles match 6-3, 6-0. Gretchen Rowe finished her singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Kelsey Whitted and Sarah Carter both won their singles matches by a 6-0, 6-1 score. Sara Kathryn Cole also won 6-0, 6-0, while Catherine Landers finished off the Covenant sweep wtih a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

In the other two doubles matches, it was Whitted and Carter earning an 8-0 victory, while Landers and Cole won 8-3.

The victory is also head coach John Hirte's first of his coaching career.

The women return to play next Saturday against Reinhardt and Wesleyan. Matches start at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga Christian School.
