Rachel Lemay will enter her first season as the assistant coach for head coach Mark Duble in 2019.
Lemay was a four-year standout at goalkeeper for Covenant and concluded her playing career in the fall of 2018.
"Having the opportunity to coach at Covenant College is a dream," Lemay said. "I am excited to bring a knowledge of the game that I have developed from 18 years of playing competitive soccer. I have been greatly impacted by the coaches here at Covenant, and it is an honor to coach on a staff which has served me so faithfully for the last four years."
Lemay wrapped up her career in the fall of 2018 as the top goalkeeper in the USA South. Lemay was named the USA South Goalkeeper of the Year, while also earning All-USA South first team and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region first team honors. She tallied eight shutouts on the year and led the USA South in minutes played. Her 127 saves for the season were the most of any Covenant keeper since 2004.
"I am very excited to have Rachel transition into the women's soccer program as my full time assistant coach," Duble said. "She has an outstanding grasp of what it takes to consistently pursue excellence on and off the pitch here at Covenant. Her passion for the sport of soccer and this program, her love for the college as an institution, and her love for her savior all made the decision to bring her on a very easy one for me."
In her career on the field, Lemay was a three-time All-USA South first team honoree and a three-time All-USA South West Division first team selection. She earned all-region honors from the United Soccer Coaches in 2017 and earned USA South All-Academic twice. In her career, Lemay totaled 303 saves with 26 total shutouts, both the most for any Covenant keeper since 2004.
"I would like to thank Dr. Tim Sceggel, Coach Duble, and the senior staff for allowing me to serve in this position in a program which has a rich tradition of success," added Lemay. "It is a pleasure to be able to give back to a program I have a deep love for and a passion to help grow."
"I believe this position will give Rachel a great platform in which to share and promote the competitive spirit and drive that made her such a great student athlete here at Covenant College," noted Duble.
Lemay graduated from Covenant in May of 2019 with a degree in sport administration.
