Women's Soccer Plays Sewanee To 1-1 Draw

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's soccer team played to a, 1-1, draw against Sewanee on Wednesday night at Puett Field at the University of the South.

Lucy Sandhoff came up big in the overtime periods making two key saves to keep the match even.

Covenant (0-1-1) appeared to take the lead but was ruled offside in the ninth minute of the match.

The Lady Scots picked up the first goal of the match in the 31st minute as Kyra Duble found the back of the net from 20 yards out past a diving goalkeeper on a back-pass from Paige Simons.

Sewanee (0-1-1) was able to even the score at one with 7:16 left second half. Olivia Rhodes played a ball forward and Addie Roernerhauer chased it down and put it into the left corner to force the game into overtime. 

Both teams saw ample opportunity to score in the extra periods. The Tigers got off six shots, two on goal, stopped by Sandhoff.

Sewanee was able to outshoot the Lady Scots, 14-10, and led Covenant in corner kicks, 9-3. The Lady Scots held a 52 percent advantage in possession.

Sandhoff got the start in goal and went the full 110 minutes making six saves.

Hanna Judycki got the start for Sewanee and lasted the whole game recording four saves, allowing the lone Lady Scots goal.


Covenant returns to Scotland Yard for their home opener on Saturday as they take on Salem in a non-conference match beginning at 1 p.m.
