MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's soccer team played another top USA South program tight, but the Lady Scots succumbed to two first half goals by host Maryville in a 2-0 loss on Wednesday night.

Covenant drops to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Both of Covenant's losses in league play have been to the top two teams in the USA South West Division. Maryville remains perfect in conference at 4-0 and improves to 7-4 on the year.

Maryville took advantage of two opportunities in the first half to score twice. In the third minute, Maryville's Lexie Hill recovered a deflected ball inside the box and scored from short range to give the host Scots a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Maryville extended that margin to 2-0 as Mackenzie Yaksic intercepted a Covenant clearance and blasted a shot from 25 yards out and into the net for the goal in the 41st minute.

Covenant had a couple of chances during the course of the match, but was turned away each time. Paige Simons had an attempt in the 29th minute that was saved by Maryville keeper Abbey Coleman in Covenant's only shot on target in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Kailey Burrell had a pair of shots on goal and Addy Cronan added another, however Coleman was up to the task each time to preserve the shutout.
