LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Kailey Burrell and Addy Cronan scored first half goals and the Covenant women's soccer team picked up its first win of the year with a 2-0 victory over Sewanee on Wednesday night at Scotland Yard.

Covenant improves to 1-2-1 on the year, while Sewanee remains winless at 0-3-2 overall.

Burrell notched her first collegiate goal early in the first half. After a Sewanee attack was snuffed out by the Covenant defense, the Lady Scots quickly turned up field as Kyra Duble found Burrell in open space above the box. Burrell collected the ball and got around Sewanee keeper Hannah Judycki before depositing the ball into the net to give Covenant a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.

Covenant kept pressure up on the visiting Tigers throughout the opening 45 minutes. In the 38th minute, Molly Kate McClearn played a ball towards the middle of the field when a Sewanee defender deflected further into Covenant's offensive side. Cronan beat the Sewanee defense to the ball and then got around another defender to get her shot past Judycki to make it 2-0. The goal was Cronan's second of the year.

The Lady Scots outshot Sewanee 8-4 in the first half, and 11-9 for the match. Covenant nearly had a third score in the second half, but Anna Robertson's free kick from just outside the box ricocheted off the crossbar.

Rachel Lemay made six saves, three in each half, at the net for Covenant to pick up her first shutout of the year. Lemay made an acrobatic save in the 33rd minute on an attempt from Sewanee's Kiera Giacomini as she just got a piece of the shot to send it over the crossbar.

Four players, Duble, Cronan, and Megan Rasku, all took two shots for Covenant.

Judycki made five saves for Sewanee in the loss. Giacomini led the Tigers with two shots taken.

Covenant will host Transylvania for Homecoming on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
