KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Covenant women's soccer junior goalkeeper Rachel Lemay was selected to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-South Atlantic Region second team, announced the organization late Tuesday evening.
The USC was formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) before rebranding itself this year.
Lemay, a junior from Apopka, Fla., becomes the second Covenant player to earn All-Region honors from the organization since joining NCAA Division III (Ruth Terry, 2015). She was also one of eight USA South players honored.
The junior put together another phenomenal year at the net for the Lady Scots. Lemay earned first team All-USA South and first team All-West Division honors for a second straight season. She compiled a 10-5-1 record with a 0.69 goals against average, which ranked second in the USA South, with six complete shutouts and a .853 save percentage. Her save percentage ranked fourth-best in the conference during the year. Lemay was named USA South Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11 after helping Covenant to three straight shutouts to begin the year. Her play enabled the Lady Scots to 10 shutouts as a team on the year.
Lemay's play was elevated during the postseason as she helped Covenant reach the semifinals of the USA South Tournament for the first time since 2013. She had the match-clinching save in a penalty shootout victory at Piedmont in the quarterfinals and then tallied a season-high tying nine saves in the semifinals against Methodist.
Covenant finished 11-7-1 overall with a 5-2 record in the USA South.
