LAGRANGE, Ga. -- A fourth straight victory and the eighth shutout of the year was accomplished by the Covenant women's soccer team in Saturday's 2-0 victory at LaGrange in USA South action.
Covenant (9-5, 4-1 USA South) also moved to within a point of a tie for first place in the USA South West Division with the victory.
Lizzy Hightower gave the Lady Scots all the scoring they need in the seventh minute of the contest. Hightower collected her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Addy Cronan, to give Covenant a 1-0 lead.
Covenant held a 5-0 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes and would take the 1-0 lead into the break.
Overall, Covenant held a 12-3 edge in total shots, with six of those being on target. Rachel Lemay notched her fifth complete shutout of the year as she made one save in 90 minutes of action. Duble led all players with four shots taken.
DeAundra Green and Saige MacLeay split time at the net for LaGrange (1-11, 0-5 USA South), with Green making three saves. Angela Kaye took two of LaGrange's three attempts, including the one shot on goal.
Covenant will host Maryville in a crucial USA South matchup on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Scotland Yard. Match time is set for 7 p.m. Maryville is one of two teams tied atop the USA South West standings.
