LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Brevard's Megan Shina scored twice in the second half, the second of which came in the 84th minute, to lift the visiting Tornados to a 2-1 victory over the Covenant women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Scotland Yard.

Covenant drops to 5-4 with the loss, while Brevard goes to 6-3. Brevard is a reclassifying member of NCAA Division III and the USA South, but the match did not count towards league standings.

After a scoreless first half, Brevard took a 1-0 lead on Shina's first goal in the 47th minute. Shina got the ball inside the 18-yard box from Kaylee Smith and then lofted one over the outstretched arms of Covenant keeper Grace Buys and into the back of the net for the score.

Covenant answered shortly after when Paige Simons put one home from the middle of the box. Addy Cronan cross the ball towards the box and Kyra Duble followed with a one-touch pass to Simons, who was left unmarked in the box. The goal was Simons' third of the year, while Cronan and Duble received assists on the score.

But Brevard would be able to find the net once more for the game-winner. Shina, the team-leader in goals scored, was again the catalyst as she beat a defender towards the right side of the box and then put one high and out of reach of Buys and into the net. The goals give Shina eight on the year.

Covenant would not be able to attempt a shot the rest of the way. Brevard held an 11-8 edge in total shots. Buys, making her first career start at the net, made one save for Covenant. Brevard keeper Rebeccah Rojas collected three saves.

Covenant will travel to Maryville on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Match time is set for 7 p.m. The match will not count towards league standings.
