FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant women's soccer junior goalkeeper Rachel Lemay was named the USA South Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 10, 2017, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.
It is the third time in her career that Lemay has earned the honor.
Lemay, a junior from Apopka, Fla., posted two shutouts as Covenant went 2-0 last week. In 186 minutes in net, Lemay stopped all 11 shots she faced. In a 4-0 win over Belhaven, Lemay made five stops before making six saves in a 1-0, overtime, victory against Transylvania on Saturday.
Lemay's play has helped Covenant to a 3-0 start, the first since 2010, while the team has yet to allow a goal. Lemay has the most minutes played without allowing a goal in the USA South this season at 262:11 and her two complete-match shutouts are tied for second in the league.
Covenant (3-0) will be back in action on Wednesday at Sewanee. Match time is set for 8:30 p.m. EDT.
