Women's Soccer Adds Six to 2017 Class

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's soccer program has announced the addition of six players to the 2017 recruiting class for head coach Mark Duble. Elsa Woody, Paige Simons, Katie LaPenna, Sophia Andre, Taylor Burrell and Layne Nash have all committed to attend Covenant and will play for the Lady Scots in the fall of 2017.

Elsa Woody - Homeschooled - Asheville, N.C.

Woody, a homeschool graduate, played with the Highland Futbol Club for nine years in North Carolina. She also was selected to the North Carolina Olympic Development state team the last four years. On her high school team, the midfielder was selected as the co-MVP in the conference as a senior.

Woody, who has had four older siblings play collegiate soccer, plans to major in business at Covenant.

Paige Simons - Homeschooled - Lookout Mountain, Ga.

Simons, daughter of Covenant head baseball coach, Doug, was also homeschooled and played with the Chattanooga Patriots. She also has competed with the Chattanooga FC Academy team for three years and Premier Soccer Academy for two seasons.

At Covenant, Simons plans to major in art.

Katie LaPenna - Eastside High School - Greenville, S.C.

LaPenna was an accomplished player in high school as she garnered two all-region awards and helped her team to back-to-back region championships as a junior and senior. Her team did not lose a region match in either of her final two seasons. The outside back also played with Furman United Soccer Club for 12 years.

A member of the National Honor Society, LaPenna plans on majoring in psychology while at Covenant.

Sophia Andre - Pioneer Valley Christian Academy - West Springfield, Mass.

Andre was an all-league defender in her junior year at Pioneer Valley Christian Academy and earned all-star status as a senior. She also played club soccer with Berkshire IFC and with Global Premier Soccer. A two-sport standout in high school, Andre also collected postseason honors in basketball.

In the classroom, Andre earned academic awards in Excellence and Achievement during her high school career. She plans to major in business with a minor in accounting at Covenant.

Taylor Burrell - Dade County High School - Trenton, Ga.

Another local product in Duble's class, Burrell comes up the mountain from Trenton, Ga., and Dade County High School. Burrell also played with Chattanooga FC Academy and the East Ridge Futbol Club.

Burrell plans to major in biology while attending Covenant.

Layne Nash - Blackman High School - Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Nash, a product out of Blackman High School, was a freshman of the year honoree in 2013-14. She has also played club soccer for six years with the Smyrna Lady Rapids and four with the Nashville Metros. The defender also split time with the Lobos Rush, Murfreesboro Strikers and Nashville FC.

Off the field, Nash was a member of the National Honor Society and was voted Student Body Counselor as a senior. At Covenant, she plans to major in biology.
