LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The No. 2 seeded Covenant women's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to No. 3 seed Piedmont in a USA South Tournament quarterfinal at Scotland Yard.

The Lady Scots end the year with a 13-5 overall record. During the year, Covenant rattled off a six-match and seven-match winning streaks. Covenant also produced 10 shutouts on the year.

Piedmont (13-6-1) moves on and will face Meredith, the No. 1 seed from the East, in a semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 4.

The match's lone goal was scored in the 15th minute. After the ball was played into the 18-yard box, Covenant was whistled for a handball that allowed a penalty kick opportunity for the visiting Lions. Piedmont's Cassidy Reich converted the penalty kick, her ninth goal of the year, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

As with the other two matches between the teams during the regular season, it was tight throughout. Covenant managed seven shots, but just two were on target as Piedmont keeper Cierra Belinkie made saves on attempts from Hannah King and Anna Porch.

Piedmont held a slim, 10-7, edge in total shots. Covenant keeper Rachel Lemay made two saves. Andrea Hunt Roylston and King took two shots apiece.
