FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant women's soccer senior defender Kaitlyn Winking has been named the USA South Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 16, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.

Winking is the second Covenant player to earn the award this season joining Rachel Lemay, who was honored on Sept. 19. The honor is the first of Winking's career.

Winking, a senior from Waynesville, Mo., helped Covenant to a 3-0 record with three shutouts on the week. The senior also collected a goal as she scored in the 44th minute of the Lady Scots' 3-0 win over Wesleyan on Friday. The goal was the first of the year and the first career score for Winking.

Winking's play along the back line also aided Covenant to shut out victories over Maryville (1-0), Wesleyan (3-0) and Agnes Scott (2-0). During the week, Covenant allowed just two shots on goal. The Lady Scots have not allowed an opponent to score in over 564 game minutes going back to Sept. 30, and have six straight shutouts.
