LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's soccer team received goals from three different players and saw its shutout streak continue in a 3-0 victory over USA South foe Wesleyan on Friday evening at Scotland Yard.
Covenant (12-2, 10-1 USA South) has not allowed an opponent to score since Sept. 30, a span of 474 game minutes. The victory keeps the Lady Scots in the lead in the USA South West Division standings. Covenant has won six straight matches overall, its second six-match winning streak of the year.
Covenant maintained possession for the majority of the contest and struck early on. Anna Porch headed in her second goal of the year in the third minute, assisted by Anna Robertson's cross into the box, giving the Lady Scots a 1-0 lead.
In the 44th minute, senior Kaitlyn Winking registered her first career goal as she dribbled through the Wesleyan defense and took a shot from 25 yards getting it by keeper Alyssa Whitford. Covenant took that 2-0 lead, and a 13-0 shot edge, into halftime.
In the second half it was more of the same. The Lady Scots took 12 more shots and again found the back of the net in the 57th minute when Ashlyn Franks knocked in a shot from the top of the 18-yard box, assisted by Porch, for a 3-0 lead. The goal was Franks' second of the year and Porch's eight assist.
Rachel Lemay and Jordan Brett combined for the shutout, but neither faced a shot as Covenant outshot the visiting Wolves 25-0 on the night. Whitford made seven saves at the net for Wesleyan (3-9, 1-9 USA South).
Covenant will play its final regular season home match on Saturday against Agnes Scott at 4:30 p.m. at Scotland Yard. The eight seniors on the team will be recognized before the match as part of Senior Day activities.
