LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- 17 matches await the 2016 edition of the Covenant women's soccer team as the schedule was recently released. Covenant will face three non-conference foes before getting into the conference portion of the slate in the 23rd season of the program's history and head coach Mark Duble.
The 2016 season opener is set for Thursday, Sept. 1 at regional foe Berry in Rome, Ga. The home opener will be Sept. 7 against Sewanee. The Lady Scots also face Birmingham Southern on the road in non-conference action on Sept. 13.
In USA South play, Covenant will face all seven of its division foes twice during the regular season. Conference newcomer Salem is set to play at Scotland Yard on Sept. 17, as part of Homecoming weekend, while Wesleyan (Oct. 14) and Agnes Scott (Oct. 15) visit in the month of October.
Homecoming weekend is Sept. 16-17 and Covenant will host defending USA South champion Piedmont on Sept. 16 before playing Salem on Sept. 17. Conference rival Maryville will come to Lookout Mountain on Oct. 12.
The USA South Tournament is set to begin on Oct. 28 with first round matches. The top two teams in each division will host first round and quarterfinal round matches on Oct. 28-29. The semifinals and championship will be played on Nov. 4-5 at the highest remaining seed.
- Covenant is a combined 11-3-1 all-time against USA South newcomers Agnes Scott, Salem and Wesleyan. Covenant and Salem were the co-regular season champions in the Great South Athletic Conference in 2012.
- With the USA South adding three institutions, Covenant will not face any conference member from the North division in the regular season.
- Covenant is 22-10-3 against the USA South since joining the conference in 2013.
