JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Natalie Smith, a senior at Providence Academy has committed to attend Covenant College. By accepting the enrollment offer, Smith has expressed her intent to become a full-time student and play soccer for the Lady Scots and head coach Mark Duble in the fall of 2013.
As a member of the soccer team at Providence Academy, Smith was named to the All-Region Team in her sophomore and junior seasons, and nominated as Best All Around Player as a junior. Smith led her team as a co-captain during both her junior and senior seasons. Smith also played club soccer for several years with Highland Football Club in Asheville, N.C.
As a student at Providence, Smith has served as the president of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior, and served in Student Government positions. She has consistently been a part of the Honor Roll over the past four years as well. As a junior and senior, Smith took the National Latin Exam and was a recipient of the cum laude certificate (Jr.) and summa cum laude certificate and gold medal award (Sr.). Recently, Smith has been announced as the Salutatorian of her senior class at Providence.
Smith is thinking of pursuing a biology degree with a health professions concentration. She is also interested in minoring in coaching. When asked what most excites her about attending Covenant, Smith said, "When I came to visit Covenant I thought the girls on the soccer team were so fun to hang out with and get to know. Having the opportunity to play with them—a group of girls who love the Lord and each other—is something I am really looking forward to when I come to Covenant in the fall."
Duble believes that Smith "will be a great addition to the talented back line that is returning in the fall. Natalie's pace of play and ability to attack from the back up the wing will be very valuable to us. Her love for the Lord and desire to be successful in the classroom makes her a great fit for Covenant and our team."
Duble, along with the rest of the Covenant women's soccer coaching staff and team, are pleased to have Natalie Smith join the Lady Scots for the 2013 season.
