KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Rachel Setzer, a senior at Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK), committed to attend Covenant College. By accepting the enrollment offer, Rachel has expressed her intent to become a full-time student and play soccer for the Lady Scots and head coach Mark Duble in the fall of 2013.
As a member of the Lady Warriors Soccer Team at CAK, Rachel experienced a lot of success in the past several years. During her freshman and junior seasons, the team won the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) A-AA State Championship. In her sophomore and senior seasons, the team finished as TSSAA A-AA State Finalists. Rachel was a recipient of the CAK Varsity Athletic Award for Outstanding Performance in soccer all four years of her high school career. She has also played club soccer for FC Alliance Soccer Club for several years.
As a student at CAK, Rachel is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, a mathematic honor society. She is also a recipient of the President's Gold Service Award.
Rachel is excited about becoming a part of the Covenant community and joining the Lady Scots women's soccer team. She learned about the school through her high school soccer coach, Reid Estus, an alumnus of Covenant College and former soccer player for the Covenant Scots.
When asked about her decision to continue her education and soccer career at Covenant, Rachel said, "I wasn't sure where I wanted to go and I was still in the process of deciding if I wanted to play soccer in college when my coach [Estus] told me he wanted to help me figure things out. He got in touch with Coach Duble and told him that our high school team was playing a game in Chattanooga. Coach Duble came to watch the game and everything sort of fell into place after that. I'm really glad it all worked out so smoothly."
Duble believes that "Rachel's personality, desire to serve the Lord, and a drive for academic excellence, fits very well with Covenant and the women's soccer program's priorities. Her developed pace of play, natural gifts of vision and understanding of the flow of play, as well as her leadership on the backline make her a very strong addition to an already strong incoming freshman class."
Duble, along with the rest of the Covenant women's soccer coaching staff and team, are pleased to have Rachel join the Lady Scots for the 2013 season.
Rachel is interested in pursuing a major in Education with a minor in Missions. She would love to become a missionary and teach overseas. She is excited to see what the Lord has planned for her in her years ahead at Covenant.
