LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Senior defender Kathryn Allison was voted to the first team NSCAA/Continental Tire NCCAA All-American team, announced the organization on Monday.
This marks the first time since the 2009 season that Covenant has had a player earn first team All-American status (Jenny Carter). Allison was an honorable mention in the 2009 season as well.
Allison, a senior from Birmingham, Ala., started all 21 matches for the Lady Scots this season. She scored two goals, including the game-winner for Covenant in a 2-0 win over GSAC foe Huntingdon College on October 13. Allison's other score came against Greenville College in a 4-0 Lady Scots win.
The senior provided more than just her two scores throughout the season. Allison was part of a strong defensive unit for the Lady Scots that gave up just 16 goals all year (a goals against average of 0.76) and combined for 11 shutouts. Covenant had a stretch of four matches in which they did not allow a score and Allison was a key reason why.
Allison was one of three captains for Covenant this season. This year, she has also earned All-GSAC and NCCAA Mid-East All-Region honors. She has also excelled in the classroom as she earned GSAC All-Academic and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete awards.
Fellow senior Katelyn Newsome was also recognized as an honorable mention. Newsome led Covenant with nine goals this season and the Lady Scots were 8-0 when she scored.
