DECATUR, Ga. -- Senior Hannah Weichbrodt scored in the 56th minute, with an assist from fellow senior Mo Cross, and that was enough to propel the Covenant women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Agnes Scott on Saturday afternoon.
The win for Covenant means they will at least share the Great South Athletic Conference regular season title. The Lady Scots are 9-1 in league play and 14-4-1 overall. Salem also has just one loss, but must beat both Huntingdon on Saturday and Wesleyan on Sunday to share the title with Covenant.
Covenant outshot the Scotties 18-8, but it was Weichbrodt's chance that proved to be the game-winner. The score for the senior was her third of the year and it was Cross' fifth assist of the season.
The Lady Scots had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Katelyn Newsome took five shots, including three on goal, Bethany Logan took three shots and three other Lady Scots had two apiece. Clara Kienzle led Agnes Scott (8-9-1, 5-4-1 GSAC) with two shots on goal.
Covenant will wrap up the regular season next week when they travel to Mount Berry, Ga., on Tuesday, October 30 to take on Berry College in non-conference play. Match time is 4:00 p.m.
