ATLANTA, Ga. -- Women's soccer midfielder Sheri Koenig was named Great South Athletic Conference Soccer Player of the Week on Wednesday, as voted on by the conference's sports information directors. Koenig is the first women's soccer player from Covenant to earn the weekly honor this year.
A senior from Pamplin, Va., Koenig has been a key to the success of the Lady Scots this season. Koenig's defensive ability helped Covenant to a 2-0 record last week with consecutive 1-0 victories over Birmingham Southern and Salem. The midfielder has aided the Covenant defensive effort over the last two weeks as the Lady Scots went over 475 minutes of gametime between goals allowed.
Koenig is the fifth overall Covenant athlete to receive GSAC honors this season. Volleyball players Chelsea Van Dyk, Stephanie Kirkpatrick, and Jessica Chittenden, along with cross country runner Beth Burgess have each been honored by the conference.
