LANCASTER, Pa. -- Despite getting outshot 23-7, stellar play from keeper Hannah Bales prevented a score from Franklin & Marshall as Covenant and the Diplomats played to a 0-0 draw Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania.
The Lady Scots were playing for a second straight day after they were defeated on Friday by No. 1 Messiah College 4-0.
Bales made seven saves for the Lady Scots (0-1-1) to keep the match scoreless. The Diplomats had three chances to score in the first 10 minutes of action, but Bales saved two shots and a third shot attempt from Franklin & Marshall's Carley Nicholson hit the crossbar.
The Lady Scots' best chance to score came late in the second half. Anne Charlotte Strawbridge and Mo Cross had back-to-back chances, but Diplomats keeper Amanda McGowan saved both. Right before the end of regulation, Kara Lee had a shot on goal and again McGowan was there to keep the match tied.
Mary Claire Roberson had two shots on goal for Covenant in the first overtime period, but could not find the net on either attempt. Neither team was able to get a shot off in the second overtime.
Franklin & Marshall (0-0-1) got five saves in all from McGowan. Nicholson attempted three shots on goal with Stephanie Bartner adding two more.
Covenant returns to Scotland Yard on Wednesday, September 5 when GSAC foe Agnes Scott visits. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
