ROME, Ga. -- Following a standout week, Covenant women's basketball junior forward Hannah Monday was named USA South Player of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 16, announced the conference on Monday.
It is the first career weekly honor for Monday and she becomes the first Covenant women's basketball player to garner an award this year.
A junior from Wildwood, Ga., Monday had an impressive week to help the Scots go 1-1. Monday averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds to go along with 3.0 steals, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. In a loss at Maryville, Monday notched her first of two double-doubles of the week with 15 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four steals, two assists and one block. In a 61-57 win over LaGrange, Monday tallied a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds with four blocks, two assists and two steals.
Monday has been on fire during the month of February averaging 15.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Three of her five double-doubles on the year have come during the month.
On the year, Monday leads the Scots in scoring at 13.0 points per game while averaging 7.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game. She ranks second in the conference with 53 blocks this season.
Covenant (10-15, 7-9 USA South) is the No. 6 seed in the USA South Tournament and will travel to No. 3 West seed Maryville on Wednesday for a first round contest. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
