LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Three Covenant women's basketball players scored in double figures, but the Scots fell to Sewanee, 67-55, in the home opener on Tuesday night inside Barnes PE Center.
The loss drops the Scots to 1-3 on the year, while Sewanee goes to 3-3.
Covenant struggled from the field in the first two quarters, but put on a run late to cut the deficit to two (28-26). Monday and Elissa Moore hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to tie the score at 24-24 and cap a 10-0 run with 1:19 left in the second.
A Monday layup in the final seconds evened the score again at 26 before Sewanee took a 28-26 lead at the break following Kinsley Logan's driving layup at the buzzer.
Covenant trailed by as many as eight in the third, but a Thomas offensive rebound and layup as time expired in the period brought the Scots to within 46-43.
Sewanee opened up a double-digit lead at 54-43 with an 8-0 run to start the fourth, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Ashley Stewart with 6:32 left. The lead extended to 17 later in the fourth on a Camryn Broussard 3-pointer as Sewanee pulled away for the win.
The Tigers were led by Logan's game-high 22 points and three assists, while Abby Young chipped in 10 points and Ellie Treanton had nine points and 10 rebounds. Sewanee made 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the field, but connected on eight 3-pointers.
Ruthie Moore added nine rebounds and six assists for the Scots, while Elissa Moore totaled seven points, six rebounds and three assists. Covenant outrebounded its opponent for a fourth straight game as the Scots held a 40-37 edge on the boards.

Covenant travels to face Blackburn in Carlinville, Ill., on Friday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CST (7 p.m. EST).
