LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- A busy first month of the season will greet the Covenant women's basketball team as head coach Skylar Bareford recently finalized the 2019-20 schedule. The Scots will play 25 regular season games, including seven over the first three weeks of the season, with 11 home games during the year.

Bareford, entering her second year as head coach, will take her squad to Toccoa Falls on Nov. 9 to open the season. Covenant remains on the road the following weekend at the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic, hosted by Birmingham Southern, to face Millsaps (Nov. 15) and the host Panthers (Nov. 16).

The 2019-20 home opener is slated for Nov. 19 against Sewanee at 5 p.m. The contest is one of three non-conference home games for the Scots.

Covenant rounds out November with a trip to the midwest to face Blackburn (Nov. 22) and Webster (Nov. 23) before traveling to Atlanta to play Oglethorpe (Nov. 26).

Three of the Scots' four games in December will come inside Barnes PE Center. Covenant opens USA South play on Dec. 4 against Agnes Scott before a trip to Piedmont on Dec. 7. The Scots then return home to face Bob Jones (Dec. 10) and Johnson (Dec. 14) before breaking for Christmas.

The final two months of the season features a full USA South slate. Covenant hosts Wesleyan (Jan. 4), Maryville (Jan. 11), Berea (Jan. 21), and Piedmont (Jan. 25) in January before capping the home portion of the schedule in February with Huntingdon (Feb. 7), Brevard (Feb. 8), and LaGrange for Senior Day (Feb. 15).

The USA South Tournament begins on Feb. 19 as the top six teams from each division qualify. Divisional seeds 3-4 host first round matches, with seeds 1-2 receiving a bye and hosting quarterfinal round games on Feb. 22. The highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and championship on Feb. 28-29.

  • Covenant will face new opponents in Blackburn and Bob Jones. Blackburn is a Division III member, while Bob Jones is currently a member of the NCCAA.
  • The most common all-time opponent on the schedule is Sewanee. The teams will meet for the 35th time this year.
  • Covenant will play three games against 2019 NCAA Tournament teams against Oglethorpe and Piedmont (twice).
  • Games against Brevard do count for the league standings this year, but the Tornados are ineligible for USA South and NCAA Tournament play as they enter their final year of transition from NCAA Division II.
