LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day in the best way as the Scots hung on for a 58-55 victory over visiting LaGrange on Saturday afternoon inside Barnes PE Center.

Covenant ends the regular season with a 10-15 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the USA South. The Scots tied for fifth in the West Division, but will be the No. 6 seed in next week's USA South Tournament. Covenant opens the tournament at Huntingdon on Feb. 13.

Before the game, the six Covenant seniors (Grace Potter, Kaley Hallmark, Taylor Robinson, Joanna Smith, Morgan Douglass, and Bekah Walter) were honored for their accomplishments and dedication to the program.

It was the seniors that helped carry Covenant to a victory. Hallmark had a team-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds and six steals, while Walter had 13 points. Smith tallied 10 points and five rebounds. Hannah Monday came off the bench to score 10 points with three rebounds.

In a tight battle that saw four ties and 11 lead changes, Covenant was able to surge ahead in the fourth quarter. Down 46-43, the Scots went on an 8-0 run over a span of two-plus minutes to gain a 52-46 lead. A Douglass jumper gave Covenant the lead during the stretch, while Monday drained a key 3-pointer to make it 50-46 with 4:05 left.

Key defensive stops in the final minutes by Covenant kept the visiting Panthers at bay. The Scots made enough free throws down the stretch and a contested 3-pointer from LaGrange's Jahpera McEachin in the final seconds was well off the mark as Covenant held on for the win.

The Scots shot 40 percent (20-of-50) from the field and were 14-for-22 at the free throw line. Covenant had a slim, 36-34 edge in total rebounds and scored 21 points off 23 LaGrange turnovers.

LaGrange (13-12, 7-9 USA South) got a game-high 18 points and 15 rebounds from Marilauren Farr, while McEachin had 15 points and Sadie Desroches 10. The Panthers were held to 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field.
