LAGRANGE, Ga. -- A tough third quarter that saw host LaGrange outscore the Covenant women's basketball team 23-5, was too much for the Scots to overcome in a 61-36 loss to the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

The loss snaps a two-game win streak for Covenant (4-10, 2-4 USA South). LaGrange (7-6, 3-3 USA South) has won back-to-back games for a third time this season.

Joanna Smith led the Scots with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Bekah Walter had 10 points. Taylor Robinson added five points and seven rebounds in the defeat.

Covenant shot only 26.9 percent (7-of-26) in the first two quarters, but trailed by just nine (28-19) at the halftime break. However, the third quarter was the difference as LaGrange made 8-of-18 from the field and limited the Scots to 20 percent shooting in the period to outscore Covenant 23-5 and open up a 51-24 lead. Jahpera McEachin had eight points, including two 3-pointers, in the stanza to lead the Panthers.

Marilauren Farr had a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead LaGrange. McEachin finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Covenant shot 29.2 percent (14-of-48) from the field. LaGrange connected at 34.3 percent (23-of-67) with five 3-pointers and a 10-of-16 effort at the foul line. The Panthers also held a 47-37 rebounding edge.

Covenant returns to Barnes PE Center on Wednesday to square off with Berea. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
